The significance of Search Engine Optimization
The main task is to attract as much first-rate traffic as possible to the websites. First-rate traffic does not refer to those visitors who will not return to your website, because that is basically ineffective, but to those that are really searching for the content or products you offer.
The goals of optimization have to suit a certain business. For example, it is too general to set a goal such as to increase you website traffic. It would be better to define this goal as: to increase the number of visitors who make use of the content or buy the products on that website. It is very important to consider your website as a set of individual web pages and to apply optimization to each of those web pages individually. The most important of the web pages is the homepage because it is visited most.

Basic elements
Text – One of the most important elements and the main carrier of the content. The most important parts of the text are the keywords within the text itself. Attention should be paid to the position of the keywords in text and their frequency.
Tags – The most important tags in the optimization are: keywords, description, title, h1 and a href.
Links – They have to be active and linked to the content.
Popularity – The more your website is among the search results, the more popular it becomes and it ranks higher. Popularity can be achieved by advertising on various free advertisement websites, newsletters, e-mails or paid advertisements…

Domain name
When choosing the domain name, most users opt for a company name or a set of words that have a certain meaning for them. However, they should also consider the fact that the domain name will affect optimization because the main keyword is the domain name itself.

Navigation
There are two kinds of navigation: internal and external. Internal navigation enables the user to browse through the website pages, while external navigation allows the user to visit other websites. It is usually positioned in the top left corner and it can be either textual or graphic. Robots “prefer” textual navigation placed on the left. It enables them to move from one page to another easily.

Map
There are two kinds: the basic one presents the complete navigational structure. It is most often a textual structure of all the links. The other kind is based on XML. It presents a document that lists all URLs. It is visible only to the robots that index websites, but not to the visitors of the websites.

Title
When a robot analyzes a webpage, the first element it focuses on is the page title. How to decide on a good title? The best way is to compile the title of words or phrases that clearly indicate what the page is about. Also, the title must not be longer than 50 characters, including blanks spaces.

Content
Original high-quality content is one of the basic elements, which needs to be approached diligently and attentively. More and more search engines, including Google, Yahoo and Bing, turn to real-time search, giving priority to new and fresh content. Additional guidelines: It has to be relevant. The text has to be original, interesting and grammatically correct. Short sentences should be used. Visitors have little patience with long sentences. Short paragraphs should be used, with a lot of blank space in between. The text should be divided by interesting headlines.

Graphics and images

In the optimization of graphics, ALT tag within IMG tag needs to contain keywords and should be brief and descriptive. ALT tag is important because robots cannot index an image so it must be added to allow search engines to index it.

Keywords
Right keywords determine whether a website will be among the first results in the search or not.

Frequency and the number of keywords
Frequency represents a number of keyword appearances on a web page in comparison to the total number of words on that page. If a page contains 1000 words total and the keyword appears 10 times, its frequency is 1%. The number of keywords per page should not be more than five, while frequency should be 5-7%, which is difficult to achieve. The best way is to compare your results with better-ranked competition and draw conclusions based on the comparison.
